New Development Incentive Program

There will be an OPEN HOUSE held on May 27-2010, from 5pm to 8pm at the Eastwood Community Hall providing information on a new Development Incentive Program, a grant funding program designed for revitalizing and reinvesting in the special needs of main street commercial areas such as Alberta Avenue. This will be of particular interest to owners of commercial properties on 118 Avenue between 95 Street and 82 Street and the south side between 82 Street and 81 Street. Real estate developers and investors are also welcome to attend.

ABBA HAS A NEW LOOK

We Believe in 118 Ave project kick off!

The “We Believe in 118″ campaign is a way of letting the public know that the communities surrounding 118th Avenue are great places to live, work and play–that amazing people live here who care about their surroundings.

The “We Believe” billboards are up and the campaign has officially kicked off! On May 27th the District 1 N.E.T. team, along with the Community Liaison Constable, Community Standards and the Alberta Avenue Business Association will canvass 118 Avenue businesses; introducing the campaign, delivering window decals, and promoting a business block captain initiative.

The project will be highly visible, celebrate strengths and empower the business community. “There are so many great initiatives in this community” said Cst. Brennan, “the “We Believe” project is a way of capturing the vibrancy of this community and increasing community partnerships with EPS.”

2009 Street Sweep

AABA is holding its fifth annual Spring Street Sweep along 118th Avenue from the Northlands underpass to 105th Street May 13th through 15th.

The goal of this initiative is to have businesses, property owners and the community clean up store fronts, lots and streets to aid in beautifying the area and getting it ready for the many events this spring and summer. The Spring Street Sweep has support from, and works in conjunction with, the City of Edmonton’s Transportation Department, Edmonton Transit and the Solicitor General’s Office.

Mayor Stephen Mandel will launch our fifth annual Spring Street Sweep at a media event on Wednesday, May 13th at 8:30 a.m. in the Coliseum Streak and Pizza parking lot (8015 – 118th Ave).

2009 Flower Barrel Planter Project

The Business Association Flower Planter project – supported by Hole’s Greenhouse, the City of Edmonton Parks Branch, and the Avenue Initiative.

The theme for the streetscape beautification program is Ride the Wave, and will include hardy tidal wave petunias to provide a burst of colour throughout the spring and summer.

AABA is providing its members the opportunity to purchase flower barrels for business fronts. The cost of each barrel is $168 including GST, AABA will subsidize $50/ barrel on the first 60 barrels purchased.

The deadline for ordering flower barrels is May 6, 2009. Please contact the AABA office for more information.
